It’s hard to describe Fiskardo as anything other than extremely pleasant. It’s a tiny village alongside a glittering blue channel of water, dotted with beautiful venetian style colourful houses. Probably due to this charming set up, it’s extremely touristy. Walking along the waterfront, you pretty much cannot see the water due to the immaculately parked up yachts, and restaurants serving tasty if not the same food time after time to yachties discussing private schools and what wine to have with lunch. However, whether this is for you or not, just outside the tiny hub is a plethora of beautiful places to stay, where you can find your own slice of beach on rocky slabs leading straight into the water, and it’s a great base for a few days.
Fiskardo Village

🍜 Eat at St Nicolas Tavern – extremely friendly and unpretentious and we had some of the best food and wine of our trip here. Pairs well with a walk round the lighthouse at sunset first as it’s on the way to the path round that part of the peninsula.
🏖️ For a swim and walk, head to the left of the village (if you are facing the sea) to the lighthouse. Pine trees provide some good shade in the day and there are so many nooks of rock going out into the sea you can sunbathe on. Otherwise try the other way, towards Foki Beach.
🛏️ Stay just outside the village center at Fey’s Waterfront House . There was a little path down to our own patch of water, crystal clear always and even a couple of loungers for use of the house. It took about 10 minutes to walk into the center and we felt it was extremely good value and that the views were prettiest from this spot.

Walks from Fiskardo

You can’t really go wrong here, walk left or right out of the village and you will come across endless places to dip your toes and paths that curve off to different hill tops. The start to walks are well signposted in the village and this website was useful too.
Lighthouse walk: Walk round the Lighthouse and old ruins at sunset. The mini peninsula was glowing with light and walking through the forested paths felt magical. This takes literally only 20 or so minutes from the center of the village so do not skip it!

Foki Beach: Walk to Foki beach and have lunch at the taverna. Not the prettiest beach of the bunch and getting into the water was a bit spiky, but but the tavern was so delicious and the beach is full of huge olive trees which is pretty unique.
Emplisi Beach: Walk to Emplisi beach first thing in the morning, and have breakfast on the way back at Mirella’s Restaurant, which has an amazing view. Before you actually get to Emplisi you can make your way down to the water and swim straight from the rocks.
Day Trip to Myrtos & Assos

I have written another post just about this day trip, which was not even a day but one excellent afternoon in which we did a LOT of steps. We took a taxi, which given the winding states of the road and ease, we had zero regrets on doing! Definitely don’t miss out on this if you are in the north of Kefalonia.
Tips for Fiskardo
- If you have a car, there are numerous beautiful hill top villages to visit. Especially between Fiskardo and Assos, we passsed many taverns perfectly situated to have breathtaking views of the sunset over the sea.
- Go for an early morning swim just outside the village and you will feel like you have your own personal giant pool to yourself. Later in the day it gets busy with various boats coming and going.
